New Site Search Engine

Filed under: Genealogy Progress Notes — admin @ 7:51 am

I’ve added a new search engine to the site by FreeFind.com.
Search this site

We have started using this search engine on Clinton Co ILGenWeb and are quite pleased.  Its biggest advantage is that it can be told to re-index a site as required.  The search engine has a “search the web” feature and I had hoped it would be useful for cross searching between the Clinton Co site and mine, but … the search engine appears to ignore the indexes it creates at other sites and present a bunch of paid advertiser type of links.

Anyhow, it does a good job of searching individual sites.

Site Updates

Filed under: Genealogy Progress Notes — admin @ 8:09 am

First, the Clinton County Obituaries page on Clinton County ILGenWeb has been updated so I took down the temporary page that was on this site.

I’ve also done a major update to the TNG on-line database including new information on the SARGENTs and HILLs thanks to Stephanie Sargent!

Filed under: Genealogy Progress Notes — admin @ 9:20 am

I am so excited — I have been accepted as the new volunteer co-coordinator the Clinton County ILGenWeb site.  This fantastic site has almost 400 MB of data including vital records, cemetery transciptions, obituarys, photographs, and census records.
It is an honor to be entrusted with the task of preserving and protecting this data.

Heinzmann Family Reunion is coming

Filed under: Genealogy Progress Notes — Tags: — admin @ 11:36 am

I am finished with indexing the 2003 copies of the Carlyle Union Banner. The indexes have all been sent to Obituary Daily Times. I have many copies of the Carlyle Union Banner from 1997 and earlier but I’m not going to be indexing them for several months. It is time for me to start working on my publication of the Ancestors and Descendants of Clemens W Heinzmann.

If there are any family members reading this and they want their information updated before the new book is printed, please contact me right away!

The Union Banner Obit project

Filed under: Genealogy Progress Notes — Tags: — admin @ 9:49 am

I have stacks and stacks of newspapers and I have no way to file them so I started a project of creating file folders for the obituaries. I’m working on the Carlyle Union Banner. I have indexed the obits from all the papers I have for the years 2004 thru today (2008). If you are interested in searching these indexes, check out the Obituary Daily Times. You can search for surnames or enter “CarlyleUB” and see all the indexed entries for the Union Banner. I am also sending the indexes to the Clinton County Mailing List. You can search the archives of the list by entering ILCLINTO in the Rootsweb search facility.

As people request individual obituraries, I post them to the Clinton County Mailing List and to this website at: Carlyle Union Banner Obituaries.

In the process of indexing these obituaries, I have found several that connect to my families, as a result, the information in my database has grown. I have updated my Complete Surname List and will update the TNG On-Line Database shortly. In the mean time, please feel free to email me with any questions.

Links update

Filed under: Genealogy Progress Notes — Tags: — admin @ 9:24 pm

Ancestry.com has moved Rootsweb under the ancestory.com domain. There was some discussion that individual contributors would no longer maintain the copywrite on their contributions so many of the websites have moved. I’ve updated my favorite links to point to the new addresses.

Jubal, Iubal — Correct spelling please

Filed under: Genealogy Progress Notes — Tags: — admin @ 8:19 pm

Although we have seen copies of marriage records and more, it is hard to tell if my great-great-great-great-great-grandfather was named Jubel or Iubel.

Anyhow, I found and fixed a couple of errors so am now reposting the ancestor reports on my father, Carl Fred HEINZMANN.

The 10,000 Person Milestone

Filed under: Genealogy Progress Notes — Tags: — admin @ 4:55 pm

Even with all the preparation for the wedding, I found digging at the roots of the family tree was relaxing and refreshing.

I dug through some information from Wayne Leidwanger and Judy Linenfelser. Our common ancestor appears to be my great-great-great grandmother, Maria Franziska Rödler (1804-1882), wife of Johann Valentin Heinzmann (1784-1848). Their work has taken me back another 6 generations.

I have updated the surname list and hope to update the reports for my father, Carl Heinzmann, soon.
