Juliett Birkner
WOOD RIVER - Juliett Birkner, 86, of Wood River and formerly of Mt. Vernon,
died at 1:30 a.m. Sunday, May 12, 2002, at VIP Manor Nursing Home in Wood River.
She was born on Dec. 23, 1915, in Mt. Vernon, daughter of David and Lillie
(Sims) Benard. She married Parker Sargent on March 7, 1936, in Salem.
Mrs. Birkner is survived by two sons, George Sargent and wife Dora of Franklin,
Wis. and Larry Sargent and wife Jeralee of Mt. Vernon; two daughters, Yvonne
Whetzel and husband Karl of Roxanna and Myra Clary of Jacksonville, Ark.; two
brothers, Lester Benard and wife Ida of Mt. Vernon and Clarence Benard and wife
Barbara of Benton; two sisters, Alice Chavez of Chicago and Dolly Sledge and
husband Bob of Mt. Vernon; 12 grandchildren, Dave Sargent, Terri Weatherford,
Darrin Sargent, Kevin Sargent, and Kelli Sargent, all of Mt. Vernon, Doug Sargent
of Florissant, Mo., Brad Whetzel of Wood River, Laura Heppe of Kansas City, Mo.,
Stephanie Sargent of Franklin, Steve Sargent of Cudahy, Wis., Joy Fitts of Mayfield,
Ky. and Mindy Beard of Vilonia, Ark.; 15 great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law,
Pat Sargent of Mt. Vernon; and numerous nephews and nieces.
Mrs. Birkner was preceded in death by her parents; a son, David Sargent; three
brothers; and four sisters.
Mrs. Birkner was retired from Warren G. Murray Developmental Center in Centralia.
She was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. She enjoyed gardening and
sewing.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Osborn Funeral Home in Dix
with Dr. Arnold Peterson officiating. Interment will follow at Pleasant Hill
Cemetery.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials
may be made to Pleasant Hill Church and will be accepted at the funeral home.
She was buried on 14 May 2002 in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Jefferson County,
