Bert Reichart Dies Sunday, Rites Wednesday

Bert E. Reichart of Shelbyville was dead on arrival at the Shelby County Memorial Hospital at 5:30 p.m. Sunday.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30p.m. Wednesday at the Lockhart and Son Funeral Home with burial in Antioch cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.

He was born in Ridge township on June 23, 1893, the son of James and Elizabeth Propeck Reichart. He was married to Julia C. Hardy on march 26, 1913, and she preceded him in death March 16, 1966. Two brother, seven sisters, and a great-grandson also preceded him.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Opal Prosser of Shelbyville, and Miss Thelma Reichart of Chicago; two sons, Howard of Mattoon and James of Shelbyville; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He was a member of the Westervelt Christian Church and the Illinois Oldtime Fiddlers Assn.
He was buried on 21 Apr 1971 in Brunswick Cemetery (Antioch), Ridge Township, Shelby County, Illinois.2,3 In 1893, seven years after Art (James Arthur), Bert Bland was the nineth child and third son of James William, 52 years old, and Elizabeth, 44 years old at that time. Bert Bland was very special in the fact that he could have died in infancy as did his baby sister Rose. She only lived 9 months and 18 days. The Reichart's have proven to be strong willed individuals who have stood the tests of time.
Bert Bland Reichart and Julia Celelia Hardy were married on 26 Mar 1913.3 Bert Bland married Julia Celelia Hardy in 1913. They stayed on and helped farm the homestead property until 1938 when Bert and Julia moved to Westervelt. They stayed in Westervelt the rest of their married life. Later in years Bert and Julia rented an apartment in Shelbyville to have modern conveniences during the cold months. They appeared in the census between 15 Jan 1920 and 16 in District 213, Ridge Township, Shelby County, Illinois.6 Bert and Julia were living with Bert's father and mother at the time of the 1920 census.

Julia Reichart Dies Today

Julia C. Reichart of Shelbyville, formerly of Westervelt, passed away at her residence at 6:30 a.m. today.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Lockart and Son Funeral Home, with burial in Brunswick cemetery near Westervelt. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7-9 p.m. Thursday.

Mrs. Reichart was born in Shelby county Sept. 5, 1894, the daughter of William and Della Rollinger Hardy. She was united in marriage to Bert Reichart on March 26, 1913. One brother and one sister preceded her in death.

She is survived by her husband, Bert; two daughters, Mrs. Opal Prosser of Shelbyville and Thelma Reichart of Chicago; two sons, Howard Reichart of Mattoon and James of Shelbyville; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Blanche Serritella of Chicago, and Mrs. Ada Holmes of Shelbyville; and two brothers, Orville Hardy and Ellsworth Hardy of Shelbyville.

She was a member of the Westervelt Christian Church.

Reichart Rites Held Friday

Funeral services for Mrs. Julia Reichart were held Friday at the Lockart and Son Funeral Home by the Rev. Robert Litteral.

Mrs. Lucille Towers and Mrs. Shirley Fry sang and Mrs. Betty Lockart was organist, pall bearers were Ross Burke, Mart Jackson, Elgin Barrett, Merlyn Lockart, Homer Howard and Grover Taylor. Ladies in charge of the flowers were Nell Jackson, Bertha Barrett, Ethel Howard, Grace Taylor Bertha Woolen and Freda Rice.

Burial was in Brunswick cemetery.

Died peacefully in her sleep at her and Bert's apartment.

Thelma Mae Reichart was born on 3 Sep 1915 in Brunswick, Shelby County, Illinois.7 She appeared in the census between 15 Jan 1920 and 16 in District 213, Ridge Township, Shelby County, Illinois.6 She was baptized about 1926. Thelma joined the Westervelt Christian Church when she was 11. She was baptized in the river. She lived in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois in 1971.5 She lived 22563 SW 66TH AVE F-312 in Boca Raton, Palm Beach County, Florida in May 1998. She died on 4 May 1998 in Boca Raton Community Hospital, Boca Raton, Palm Beach County, Florida.7 She was buried in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois.7 Thelma, the second daughter was born Sept. 3, 1915. She came to be known as Aunt Tiny. Thelma (Aunt Tiny) only had one daughter, Darlene ( -present). Aunt Tiny and Darlene both moved to Chicago and started working for Illinois Telephone Company. Aunt Tiny has now moved to Florida and is busy doing crafts, volunteering for church activities, and sending cards to every niece, nephew, grand niece, and grand nephew. We always looked forward to cards from Aunt Tiny on every special occasion.

He appeared in the census between 15 Jan 1920 and 16 in District 213, Ridge Township, Shelby County, Illinois.6 He was educated high school between 1931 and 1935 in Westervelt, Shelby County, Illinois. He served in the military in Okinawa, Japan. World War II He lived in Mattoon, Coles County, Illinois in 2000. He died on 1 Dec 2000 in Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center, Mattoon, Coles County, Illinois. From an unknown newspaper:

Howard Dewitt Reichart, age 82, of Mattoon, passed away at 6:12 p.m. on Friday, December 1, 2000, at the Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center.
Funeral services celebrating his life will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday at the First United Methodist Church with the Reverend Ron Dickinson and the Reverend Joe Diener officiating. Burial will be in the Dodge Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:30 p.m. on Monday evening at the Shilling Funeral Home with Masonic rites beginning 7:30 p.m.
Howard was born at Brunswick, Shelby County, on October 24, 1918, a son of Bert B. and Julia C. Hardy Reichart. He married Iva Mae Waymire on October 28, 1938, at St. Louis, Missouri.
Survivors include his wife, Iva M. Reichart of Mattoon; three sons, Roger Dean Reichart and wife Frances I. of Castro Valley, California, Tommy Lynn Reichart and wife Sharon L. of Boca Raton, Florida and Barry Bland Reichart and wife Susan L. of Chatham, Illinois; six grand children, Derek A. Reichart of Redondo Beach, Calif., Andrea J. Cabral and husband Lance of Castro Valley, Calif., Shannon R. Reichart and wife Jessica of Colorado Springs, Colo., Carrie J. Reichart of Atlanta, Georgia, Casey A. Reichart and Brook N. Reichart, both of Chatham, Illinois; and three great-grandchildren, Andrew Dean Cabral, Justin Ryan Cabral and Nicholas Tyler Cabral, all of Castro Valley, California.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and two sisters.
Mr. Reichart was an auditor for the State of Illinois. He served as Administrator for the Odd Fellow-Rebekah Home, from which he retired in 1977. Howard was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Mattoon, the Illinois Order of Odd Fellows, American Legion Post 88, V.F.W. Post 4325, and 32nd Degree Mason and Past Grand [sic] Master of the Masonic Lodge in Findlay and member of the Ansar Shrine in Springfield and Scottish Rites in Belleville.
Memorials gifts in lieu of Flowers are suggested to the First United Methodist Church or to a charity of the donor's choice. He was buried on 5 Dec 2000 in Dodge Grove Cemetery, Mattoon, Coles County, Illinois.
