Gladys Zachry
CARLYLE - Gladys L. Zachry, 93, of rural Carlyle died on Sunday, July 27, 2003, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Breese.
She was born on April 5, 1910, in Santa Fe township, Clinton County, daughter of Alex and Mabel (Walker) Johnson. She married Fred Zachry on Sept. 22, 1930, in Salem and he preceded her in death on Oct. 21, 1981.
Mrs. Zachry is survived by one son, Duane Zachry and wife Mary of Carlyle; two grandchildren, Brad Zachry and wife Mary, and Brett Zachry and wife Mary, all of Carlyle; five great-grandchildren, Wade Zachry and friend Chelsie Hilmes, Brooke Zachry, Logan Zachry, Alexis Zachry, and Olivia Zachry; and two sisters-in-law, Lorraine Johnson and Marie Johnson, both of Carlyle.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Zachry was preceded in death by her parents; seven brothers, Leaton, Leland, Dosker, Noel, Darrell, Walker and Alex; and three sisters, Mary, Uldene and Paula.
Mrs. Zachry was a member of First United Methodist Church in Carlyle and was a member of the Tuesday Class at the church. She also was a charter member of the Home Makers Extension and a 60-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star No. 518 in Carlyle affiliated with Sandoval Chapter No. 715. Mrs. Zachry was also a member of the Clinton County Farm Bureau. She was a 4-H leader for 25 years and served on the Clinton County Women's Committee as 4-H chairwoman and international chairwoman. She was a graduate of Carlyle High School and taught in rural area schools for 10 years, teaching at Ridge, Post Oak and Posey schools.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church in Carlyle with the Rev. Steve Goodin officiating. Interment will follow in Carlyle Cemetery.
Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Zieren-Day Funeral Home in Carlyle and from 9 a.m. to the service time Friday at the church.
Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church in Carlyle.
She was buried on 1 Aug 2003 in Carlyle Cemetery, Carlyle, Clinton County, Illinois.10 The Johnson Family Tree and Hugh Johnson Descendants documents showed her name as Lulu Gladys but her obituary listed Gladys L.

Alex Johnson, 82
Alex W. "Ecky" Johnson of rural Carlyle died at St. Mary's Hospital in Centralia on Thursday, April 17th, 1997, following a tractor accident at his home. He was 82 years old.

Born in Santa Fe township on May 15th, 1914, he was a son of Alex and Mabel Walker Johnson. On March 7th, 1943, in Hookdale, he married Marie Mansholt, and she survives.

In addition to his widow, survivors include one son, Larry Johnson of Carlyle; four daughters, Carol Johnson of O'Fallon, Mrs. Norma Buehne of St. Rose, Mrs. Darlene Diekemper of Carlyle, and Mrs. Norina Poettker of Breese; 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Gladys Zachry of Carlyle.

A life-long area resident and farmer, Mr. Johnson was a member of the Clinton County Farm Bureau, Scott Lodge #79 AF & AM, and the Sword of Bunker Hill. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Carlyle. He also was a former member of the Sanitary Milk Producers.

Rev. John Vidakovich officiated at services held at the First United Methodist Church at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, April 20th, with burial following in Hookdale cemetery.

Visitation was at the Zieren-Day Funeral Home in Carlyle.
He was buried on 20 Apr 1997 in Hookdale Cemetery, Hookdale, Bond County, Illinois.
