Fifth Generation

30. John S Davidson27,95 was born about 1801 in Lincoln County, Kentucky. He died in Mar 1846 in Marion County, Illinois.27 He was buried in Carrigan Cemetery, Marion County, Illinois.27
From Lillie Pauline White, Jennings, Davidson and Allied Families:

JOHN DAVIDSON
John and Hannah Davidson, parents of the above family, were both buried in the Carrigan Cemetery in Marion County, Ill., where many of their kinsmen are also buried.
In June, 1826, he was one of the two witnesses to the deed of conveyance by gift of the first thirty acres of land on which the city of Salem, the county-seat of Marion County now stands.
John Davidson had a grist mill to which people for miles around brought their corn for grinding, and many times had to remain over night to await their turn at the milling. The daughters often rode the sweep or drove the horses and sometimes even ground the grist alone, if the men folks were not around to attend to it.

John S Davidson and Hannah Hughson were married in 1823/24 in Huey, Clinton County, Illinois.27

31. Hannah Hughson27,95 was born about 1802 in New York. She appeared in the census on 28 Sep 1850 in District 11, Marion County, Illinois.69 She died in Apr 1858.27 She was buried in Carrigan Cemetery, Marion County, Illinois.27 Children were:

i.

Samuel Ash Davidson27 was born about 1822 in Illinois.69

ii.

Elizabeth Ann "Betsy" Davidson27 was born about 1825. She died in Delphus, Iowa.

iii.

James Davidson.27

iv.

Mary Jane Davidson was born about 1829 in Illinois. She appeared in the census on 28 Sep 1850 in District 11, Marion County, Illinois.69 According to the 1850 Marion County, Illinois census, this Mary Davidson was one of a family of Davidsons listed as neighbors of William and Sarah Hicks. In 1850, she would have been about 21 years old, very near the same age of William and Sarah Hicks. The reason she is so interesting to me is that my great-grandmother, Hannah Ann Hicks, listed "W Hicks" as her father and "Mary Davidson" as her mother on her marriage certificate for her first marriage which was to James Faught.

I have since found out that Sarah F's surname was Davidson. At the time of Hannah Ann's birth, William Hicks and Sarah F Davidson had been married over 11 years.

I have not been able to find a Mary Davidson in the 1860 census. I was able to find a marriage record for COLE, EDWARD and DAVIDSON, MARY J dated 08/28/1856 in MARION county. I was not able to find an Edward Cole nor a Mary Cole in the 1860 census.

New information shows Mary was a sister to Sarah and her and Edward Cole moved to Texas.
