1838.35 He appeared in the
census in 1840 in Saint Clair County, Illinois.36 He died on 17 Sep 1845 in Saint Clair County, Illinois.12 He was buried in Prairie du Long
Township, Cemetery Section 2, Saint Clair County, Illinois.37 The parentage of Thomas Sargent is unknown as well
as his birthplace. However, there are statements of census noting his birth
in Ohio and in Kentucky. Dr. William F. Sargent thinks Thomas may have been
born in Ohio County, KY.
Two possibilities exist. A George Sargent appears as a sheriff in St. Clair
County, IL, circa 1830. As well, Winthrop Sargent appears in deed records of
St. Clair County, IL, circa 1790. The State of Illinois did not exist in this
period, but was considered a part of the Northwest Territories.

Thomas Sargent and Jane D Chewning were married on 8 Apr 1830 in Saint Clair
County, Illinois.25,38 Married by Samuel Smith.
In a letter from Dr Bill Sargent to Frankie C. Heinzmann dated 26 Jul (1995),
Dr Sargent lists an unidentified boy born between Nancy Caroline and William
Matthew. He does not list a boy born between William Matthew and Francis nor
does he list a boy born after Francis.
In a letter from Dr Bill Sargent dated 17 Aug 1995, Dr Sargent lists the marriage
date as 1828. 25. Jane
D Chewning was born on 2 Aug 1809 in Louisa County, Virginia.12,25,39 She immigrated in 1817 Barren
County, Kentucky.25 She
immigrated in 1824 Saint Clair County, Illinois.25 She died on 8 Feb 1885 in Saint Clair County, Illinois.12,25,37,39
Regina Davidson reported both a death date of 1845 and a second marriage of
1849.
W. Farthing Sargent "Dr Bill". Letter to Frankie C. Heinzmann, July
26 (1995), gave 5 Feb 1885 as a death date. More likely this is the correct
DOD. It is also listed in her father's bio.
She was buried in Squire Hill (Rittinghouse) Cemetery, Prairie du Long Township,
St. Clair County, Illinois.12
Regina Davidson's letter says she was buried at "Hill Cemetery Prarie DuLong
Township, St Clair County, IL. Last name could also be spelled Chuwning. Children
were:

Date of birth is given as 20-May-1831 by Regina Davidson but as 20-Mar-1831
by Dr Bill Sargent.
She died on 4 Mar 1904 in Mayfield, Sumner County, Kansas.37 She was buried in Osborne Cemetery, Mayfield, Sumner
County, Kansas.37 There
is some confusion about the final resting place. Dr Bill Sargent listed Caroline's
place of death as Mayfield, KS and her burial in Osborne Cemetery, Mayfield,
KA. Mayfield is in Sumner County. Osborne Cemetery is in Osborne, Osborne County.

was born about 1836 in Saint Clair County, Illinois.12,25,37 Regina Davidson lists the date of birth as "circa
1840". Dr Bill Sargent lists the date of birth as "1836" in a
letter and "about 1840" in an article. She immigrated about 1882 Kansas.26 | | v. | ??? Sargent died on 23 Jul 1845.12 She died from Farm accident. A female Sargent
fell to her death in front of a farm thresching machine while driving the team.
